Rule 1 Schedule |
The Prestonwood Ladies Bowling League will be sanctioned with the Capital Area USBC WBA for the 2008-2009 season. The league will consist of 13 or 14 teams with three women per team. If the league has an odd number of teams, each team (once every 13 weeks) will take a turn bowling against a "vacant" team. This is the procedure used by Buffaloe Lanes. The league will bowl on 32 Fridays beginning at 9:30 a.m. The format is a split season. The first half (16 weeks) begins September 5, 2008, and ends on January 9, 2009. The second half (16 weeks) begins on January 16, 2009 and ends on May 8, 2009. The full season winner is based on total accumulation of points. In the event of a tie for first place, a roll-off will be held (date to be announced). A roll-off is only needed if there is a tie in points at the end of the 32 week season. The winner of the roll-off will be decided by awarding a point for each game won. The team that takes 2 out of 3 games is the season grand champion. The tentative date for the bowling banquet is May 29, 2009. |
Rule 2 Management |
The league’s governing body is its board of directors comprised of the officers and team captains. |
Rule 3 Elections |
The league membership will elect officers annually and adopt rules. The president will appoint a nominating committee, which prior to the election develops a slate of officers from those choosing to run for office. Officers are elected by majority vote. Those present at the annual election meeting shall constitute a quorum (the number of members required to be present to conduct business). |
Rule 4 Fees |
The amount to be paid by each bowler will be $10.75 per week, of which $7.75 will cover the lineage with the balance going into the prize fund and salaries of the secretary and treasurer. Any member who is delinquent in bowling fees may be dropped from the league. Bowling fees may be paid in cash or check, payable to Buffaloe Lanes Cary. The first check for $43.00 will be paid on September 5, 2008 which covers the month of September. A sanction fee of $17.00 is also due September 5, 2008, payable to CAUSBCA. Bowling fees may be paid monthly, with the payment due on the first Friday of each month (see payment schedule). A "split-season" payment of $172.00 due on September 5, 2008 and January 16, 2009, or a one time payment of $344.00 due on September 5, 2008 are also payment options. A substitute bowler may not bowl if the regular bowler’s fees are not up to date. There will be a fee assessed for any returned checks. |
Rule 5 Salaries |
The secretary will be paid a salary from the prize fund at year-end of $0.35/bowler per time bowled. The treasurer will be paid a salary from the prize fund at year-end of $0.25/bowler per time bowled. |
Rule 6 Membership |
Membership of the league constitutes those whose sanction and bowling fees have met the payment requirements. If a member must withdraw during the season, a two-week written notice is required. The member will be responsible for their prize fund for up to two weeks if the vacancy is not filled within that period. Prestonwood Ladies Bowling League is a closed league. |
Rule 7 Prizes |
The treasurer of the league is responsible for paying out prizes at the end of the season during the awards banquet. All prizes are paid in cash, except for the bowling statistics which may be non-cash prizes based on the decision of the prize committee. To qualify for an individual award, a bowler must have bowled one-half of the scheduled games. A bowler can qualify for only one individual award, and will accept the award with the highest pay out. If a member withdraws before the end of the season, the prize funds will remain with the league. According to USBC regulations, a prize committee develops and submits prize/award lists to the board of directors within 5 weeks of the start of the season. Prizes are awarded at the end of year banquet. |
Rule 8 Averages |
Bowlers will establish an average comprised of three games bowled at the same time. The previous year’s average will be used the first week. Thereafter, averages and handicaps will be calculated weekly. |
Rule 9 Handicap |
The handicap will be 90% and will be based on the difference between the bowler’s individual average and a scratch figure of 200. Bowlers will have their handicap computed after the first complete series, to be applied on the games in that series, and on the next series in which they compete. Thereafter, handicaps will be based on their current average. |
Rule 10 Team Roster |
Selection of team members will be based on any of the following 3 options:
Captains will turn in rosters of team members to the officers on the first day of the schedule, if not completed before. Any roster changes must be reported to the league prior to the time a new team member bowls. New players may not be added to the roster in the last two weeks of the season without the approval of the Board of Directors. |
Rule 11 Substitutes |
The league will maintain a list of substitutes. No one may bowl with more than one team for each scheduled match. A substitute’s score counts in place of the regular bowler. A substitute must be sanctioned. During position rounds and roll-offs, no substitutes will be allowed to bowl. |
Rule 12 Legal Line Up |
A minimum legal line up must include at least one player from a team’s current roster, which may be a legal player’s pre-bowled score. |
Rule 13 Forfeitures |
When a game is declared forfeited, the team present will bowl as though the game was actually contested and will complete the team frame on one lane before starting the next frame on the adjoining lane. A team must bowl no more than 50 pins below their current team average in order to win a point by forfeiture. Points not won for failing to bowl the prescribed score will not be credited to either side. |
Rule 14 Absentee and Vacancy Scores |
Absentee scores will be allowed when a team has a legal line up, but less than a full line up at the start of any game. The absentee score will be the average, less 10 pins. The handicap used will be the actual handicap for that bowler. No team may use an absentee bowler’s average more than three consecutive competition weeks. Once a member has bowled again in regular competition, their absentee score may be used again. A vacancy score is used if the bowler is absent three or more times. |
Rule 15 Bowling Unopposed - Pre-bowling |
Bowling unopposed is when one team or an individual bowls without the scheduled opponent at a time other than the regularly scheduled league time. Pre-bowling means you bowl your games in advance and your team will use those scores for the session you are absent. Pre-bowl scores count towards your average and team points. An individual or team may pre-bowl at any time prior to the date of the scheduled competition. There is no limit on the number of games that can be bowled in one day or the number of sessions that can be pre-bowled ahead of the regularly scheduled league time. No officer need be present during a pre-bowl session. Buffaloe Lanes will verify scores. Our league does not recognize post-bowled games. |
Rule 16 Tardy Bowlers |
A bowler who arrives late may enter the game provided the fourth frame has not been completed. A frame is completed when the anchor position on each team has completed the frame. Anyone not present at 9:30 a.m. will be entered as absent, and will be reinstated as regular if they enter the game before the fourth frame is completed. |
