Fees in arrears of more than 2 weeks are not permitted. Any member who is delinquent in bowling fees for 2 weeks will not be permitted to bowl until all fees are up to date. Rule 5: Withdrawal

If a member of a team or entire team must withdraw from the league during the season, a 2 week notice must be given to the league secretary in writing. The withdrawing team or individual must pay the league fees for the 2 weeks, if the vacancy is not filled within the period. The replacement team shall assume the standings of the vacated team.

Rule 6: League Funds

An account shall be opened in the name of the league with Buffaloe Lanes Cary. Funds will be deposited weekly. Withdrawals from this account can be made only with the written authorization of 2 league officers.

Rule 7: Prizes

The president shall appoint a committee of 3 members to propose a prize list to be awarded at the end of the league season. The prize list must be approved by the board of directors and distributed to each team by the end of the fifth week of bowling. To qualify for an individual award a bowler must have bowled in two thirds of the scheduled league games. (66) An individual bowler cannot be awarded more than one individual prize, which must be the highest ranked individual prize. A team cannot be awarded more than one prize, which must be the highest ranked team prize. Special high series and high game prizes shall be awarded in both handicap and scratch, and individual and team prizes. Scratch prizes are of the greatest value.

Rule 8: Averages

Bowlers shall start the 2008 – 2009 season with an entering average based on one of the following:

  1. If a bowler was in the Crossroads Mixed League for the 07-08 season, their 07-08 yearbook average from Crossroads Mixed league will be used.
  2. If the bowler did not bowl in this league last season, but has a 07 – 08 CAUSBCA book average, that average will be used.
  3. If a bowler has neither of the above, then the bowler shall establish a new average in the first 3 games of competition and have handicaps calculated thereafter.

All entering averages will be used for the first three weeks of bowling. On the fourth week of bowling, the bowler’s average becomes their actual average, based on the first 3 weeks of bowling.

Rule 9: Handicaps

The handicap allowance for each team member is calculated based on 90% of the difference between the individual’s average and the average 210.

Rule 10: Roster

Captains are responsible for turning in the team roster, to the secretary prior to the time a new member begins to bowl. No new members may be added to the team’s roster in the 16th or 32nd weeks of competition. Team rosters will be limited to 6 members and no roster members may sub on different teams.

Rule 11: Substitutions

A list of roving substitutes shall be maintained by the league. No one member or substitute may bowl with more than one team or league for the regularly scheduled games each week. No subs will be allowed in the 16th, 32nd, or 33rd weeks of competition.

Rule 12: Legal Lineup

A legal lineup may be made up of both roster members and substitutes. At least 3 bowlers (2 regular members from the team roster) constitute a legal lineup. Each team must have lineup prior to the completion of the third frame of any game. If not the game will be considered a forfeit, unless otherwise allowed by the Board of Directors.

Rule 13: Forfeitures

When a game is declared a forfeit, the team present shall bowl as though the game was actually contested, and shall complete each team frame on one lane before moving to the next frame on the adjoining lane. A team must bowl no less than 50 pins below their team average in order to win the points forfeited. Points not won due to a team bowling less than 50 pins of the team’s current average will not be credited to either team.

Rule 14: Absentee and Vacancy Scores

Absentee scores shall be allowed when a team has a legal lineup, but less than a full lineup of 5 members, at the start of any game in a series. The absentee score shall be the member’s current average minus 10 pins. The handicap for the absent member shall be calculated based on the actual average of the designated absentee. For the first week of bowling, an absentee shall be the bowlers entering average minus 10 pins. No team can use an absentee bowler’s average for more than three consecutive weeks; thereafter the vacancy score shall be used. A vacancy score shall be 120 with a handicap of 81. If multiple team members are absent on a given week and subs are not available for all the absent members, the average of the absent member with the most games bowled shall be used to complete the team lineup. If the absent members have the same number of games bowled the absent member with the lower average shall be used to complete the team lineup. After a team uses a vacancy for 5 weeks, the Board of Directors will decide on score to be used by a vacancy.

Rule 15: Pre Bowling / Post Bowling and Bowling Unopposed

Except in the case of emergency, all requests for prebowl/postbowl matches must be filed with the league president and secretary at least 48 hours prior to the schedule match. After sufficient notice has been given by the team requesting to prebowl or post bowl, the president or secretary will notify the opposing team captain, who is responsible for notifying his/her team members of the change in schedule. A team may prebowl/postbowl a match, provided the proper notifications have been made, only within one week of the regularly scheduled match. Prebowl/postbowl matches are not allowed by an individual member of a team.

Rule 16: Tardy Player, Pacer Rule and Bowling Out

A team member or sub arriving late may enter a game provided 3 full frames of a game have not been completed. Frames missed may be made up. A frame is considered to be complete when the bowler in the last position on each team has been completed the frame. Tardy players are not permitted practice. Pacers are not allowed. A bowler shall be permitted to finish a game in a series prior to his/her teammates, or opponents provided sufficient cause of emergency exists. Sufficient cause of an emergency and approval to bowl out is to be determined by the league officers.

Rule 17: Positions Standings

Team standings shall be determined on a point basis, with two points awarded for each game won and one point awarded for the high team series, in each match for a total of seven points per match. Each team’s handicap will be added to each game and series for determining points won and lost.

Rule 18: Playoff / Position Series

To determine the league’s first place team winner, at the end of the year, a three game series shall be bowled between the team winning the first half of the season and the team winning the second half of the season. Most points within this series determine the overall first place position. An extra tenth frame shall be bowled in the event of a tie at the end of the playoff series. The 33rd week shall be the positions series for the season’s final year end standing with the combination of the first half and second half points determining the position of the remaining teams. If a tie exists in the season’s total points won at the end of the three game series, the prize money for the two places will be combined and split evenly among the two teams. If a team chooses not to bowl in the scheduled end of year playoffs, as a result of having locked up the overall league 1st place (winning both halves of the season), that team will be subject to penalty of forfeiting all league prizes or being arbitrarily moved to the last overall position in the league. This rule will be enforced by the Board of Directors; majority vote at the time of the occurrence. Scores bowled in the playoff/position series shall count towards individual and team averages and/or special prize awards offered by the league.

Rule 19: Inclement weather

The decision to cancel league competition due to inclement weather will be made by the President, secretary and Buffaloe Lanes Cary management by noon of the Tuesday match. The secretary will attempt to contact all team captains. The team captains will be responsible for contacting their team members.
