BUFFALOE GALS 2008 - 2009

Rule 1. SCHEDULE

The Buffaloe Gals bowling league shall be sanctioned by the United States Bowling Congress through its local association. The league shall consist of 10 teams with a playing strength of 4 women per team. The league will bowl each Wednesday for 33 weeks beginning 9/3/08 and ending on 5/13/09 . All scheduled matches will start promptly at 9:30 AM Practice starts at 9:15 AM. The league will bowl a split season with 16 weeks in the first half and 16 weeks in the second half, with a play-off on the 33rd week. No Bowling on 11/26/08, 12/24/08, 12/31/08 and 4/8/09. There will be no bowling when the Wake County schools are closed due to inclement weather. In the event the opening of school is delayed one hour, the league will begin bowling at 10:00 AM. In the event the opening of school is delayed two hours, the league will not bowl. The banquet is tentatively scheduled for May 20, 2009.

Rule 2. MANAGEMENT

The management of this league shall be vested in the board of directors, which shall consist of the officers and team captains. The league membership shall elect officers and the board of directors shall adopt the league rules. A majority shall constitute a quorum.

Rule 3. SALARIES

The salary to be paid to the secretary/treasurer, shall be $.50 per person per day, and shall be paid at the completion of the league schedule. Full payment shall not be authorized until the secretary has furnished to the secretary of the local association all average sheets requested by them, including the final average sheet, and the treasurer has submitted a full accounting of all funds received and disbursed to the membership.

Rule 4. FEES

The amount to be paid by each bowler each day shall be $10.00 of which $7.75 will cover the cost of bowling, with the balance to be placed in the league treasury. League fees must be paid the day of bowling. The fees for the last 2 weeks shall be paid by each member before completion of the 5th week of the schedule. If a member uses a substitute, the league member is responsible for the entire $10.00 bowling fee. A bowler cannot be more than two weeks in arrears in case of illness. Members may pay ahead in league fees but must notify the Treasurer. Any bowler in arrears due to absence must pay shortages upon return. Bowlers entering after the first week of the league schedule shall pay back prize fund, or elect to forego the percentage of prize fund missed when final league prizes are paid. The full $10.00 fee is due even if a bowler is absent.

Rule 5. LEAGUE FUNDS

An account shall be opened in the name of the league in in-house banking , to which funds will be deposited weekly. Withdrawals from the account shall be made only with the joint signatures of at least two authorized officers of the league.

Rule 6. PRIZES

The President shall appoint a committee of two members to draw up a prize list by the 5th week. The prize list must be approved by the Board of Directors and distributed to each team captain by Week #5 after the start of the schedule. To qualify for individual awards, a bowler must have bowled in at least two~thirds of the scheduled games. The individual awards are as follows: high average, high scratch series and game, high handicap series and game. In handicap leagues, special prizes and awards shall be on a handicap basis. An exception to the limit on individual prizes is the JOSIE DEANGELIS SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD. This award will be determined each year by league vote and may not be awarded to the same person two consecutive years. The team captain shall distribute all prize money awarded to teams. New bowlers will not be allowed to join the league during the last three weeks of each half. If a team is replaced, the new team will assume the position standing of the replaced team. When an individual withdraws from the league without giving satisfactory reason, or is expelled for sufficient cause, the prize money will be forfeited. The USBC Achievement Award shall be given to the league's Most Improved Bowler of the Year. Teams with less than four bowlers will receive the appropriate percentage of the prize fund amount based on their position in the final standings (one bowler: 25%; two bowlers: 50%; three bowlers: 75%). The excess monies will be divided among all bowlers.

Rule 7. ENTERING AVERAGES

Returning bowlers will use their 2007-2008 yearbook average from this league for the first 9 games bowled, after which her average will revert to current average. A new bowler to the league with a yearbook average from other leagues will use her highest yearbook average for the first 9 games. If the new bowler does not have a yearbook average, she will establish her average in the first three-game series that she bowls and will maintain that average for the next six games. A vacancy score of 120 will be used until a bowler completes her first game of the season.

Rule 8. HANDICAP

The handicap allowance shall be 85% , and shall be based on the difference between each individual's average and a scratch figure of 200. The team handicap for each scheduled match shall be the total of the individual handicaps for the players in the lineup.

Rule 9. TEAM ROSTERS

Captains will turn in rosters of team members to the secretary prior to the start of the schedule. Rosters will be limited to 4 players. Any roster changes must be reported to the league secretary prior to the new team member bowling. The team captain shall be responsible for the eligibility, conduct and attendance of her team. She shall collect all monies due the league and bowling establishment. All monies collected by the captain shall be delivered to the League Treasurer prior to the start of the second game. She is responsible for the correctness of the team's score sheet. After auditing all totals with the captain of the opposing team, she shall sign the opposing team's score sheet. It is also within the captain's authority to remove any player permanently from her team if she is able to furnish the Board good and sufficient reason to do so. It is the Captain's responsibility to keep the pace of play moving and to instruct her team on bowling etiquette. At least one member of the team should have knowledge of the automatic scoring procedures.

Rule 10. SUBSTITUTES

The league shall maintain a list of roving or floating substitutes. No one may bowl with more than one team for the regularly scheduled games each week. Subs must have an established average with at least nine games before they can bowl the final two weeks of each half of the league and the roll-off week. Substitutes must have an average within 20 pins of the average of the bowler for which they are substituting. Substitutes are eligible for national and local association awards, but are not eligible for league individual awards.

Rule 11. LEGAL LINE-UP

A minimum legal line-up for a 3-member team must include at least 1 (one) player from a team's current

roster. A minimum line-up for a 4-member team must include at least 2 (two) players from a team's current roster. A minimum legal line-up for a 2-person team must include at least 1 (one) player from a team's current roster.

Rule 12. FORFEITURES

When a game is declared forfeited, the team present shall bowl as though the game was actually contested. When a team fails to have a minimum legal line-up, the opposing team members’ cumulative scores cannot be less than the sum of each bowler’s average less 10 pins multiplied by the number of bowlers on the team, in order to win points by forfeiture. Points not won for failing to bowl the prescribed score will not be credited to either team.

Rule 13. ABSENTEE AND VACANCY SCORES

An absentee’s score shall be her actual average and the handicap shall be based on that average. When a team does not have enough players on its roster for a full line-up, a vacancy score of 120 shall be used (with a 68 handicap). A bowler absent for more than three weeks will revert to a vacancy score of 120 (with a handicap of 68).

Rule 14. POSTPONEMENTS

A committee shall be appointed to determine what is sufficient cause to grant a postponement. In emergencies, the Captain of the team unable to attend shall notify the opposing team captain and/or Secretary or President of the league at the earliest opportunity. All requests for postponements shall be filed with the Board of Directors, except those caused by emergencies. A team may not pre-bowl or post-bowl more than 3 times during the course of the league schedule. All make-ups must be completed two days before the next scheduled bowling time. No individual may pre-bowl or post-bowl, and a team cannot pre-bowl or post-bowl if it is able to field a legal line-up during the regularly scheduled league match. There is no pre-bowling or post-bowling allowed from Friday evening through Sunday evening.

Rule 15. BOWLING UNOPPOSED

Unopposed bowling will be allowed with a printout from the automatic scorers.

Rule 17. POSITION STANDINGS

Standings shall be determined on a point basis, with 2 points awarded for each game won and 1 point for the high team series in each match. When a tie occurs in a game, each team will be awarded 1 point. If a tie occurs for the series, each team will earn ˝ point. There will be no roll-off for a tie.

Rule 18. WITHDRAWALS

Any member or team who withdraws from the league must give written notice to the captain and league secretary. The withdrawing member is responsible for two weeks’ league fees.

Rule 19. PLAY-OFFS

A play-off for first place will be held on the last day of scheduled bowling, between the winner of the first half and the winner of the second half. Total points in a series of 3 games shall determine the Grand Champion.(Free entry into the Buffaloe Lanes Tournament to be held in June, 2009 will be awarded to the Grand Champion of the league.) The rest of the teams will be paired up in order of their standings, based on total points earned for the full season through week 32. If there is a tie in any position after the play-offs, the final standings will be determined by total points. There will be a position round at the end of each half of the season. During the last week (week 33 _ Grand Champion decision week) individuals will still be able to earn individual awards. If the same team wins both halves of the season that team will be declared the Grand Champion, and all teams will be paired for the play-offs in order of their standings, based on total points earned for the full season through week 32.

Rule 20. CHILDREN

Infants and pre-school children must be supervised and remain outside the bowling area. Infants under the age of 3 months can remain with their mothers under strict supervision if they are not disruptive to other bowlers. Failure to comply will be handled by action of the Board of Directors. This applies to substitutes as well as regular members.

Rule 21. CHRISTMAS PARTY

A Christmas Party will be held on the last Wednesday before Christmas (unless decided by vote to be 1 or 2 weeks earlier in the league schedule). Each member is asked to bring some refreshments and a gift costing no more than $10.00. The Board of Directors will provide the paper plates, napkins, silverware and cups. Buffaloe Lanes will provide the drinks. Each bowler who brings a gift may choose a gift from those displayed when she gets her first strike.

Rule 22: MISCELLANEOUS

The Buffaloe Gals League will offer a 50/50 raffle each week of league bowling for those who are interested in participating. Tickets will be available at a cost of 1 for $1.00. The basket of tickets will be available on lane 1. Half of the money will be given to the winner of the drawing, and the other half will be placed in the treasury to be used toward gifts for the luncheon at the end of the season with any balance to be added to prize funds.

Rule 23. USBC RULES

All rules not covered herein shall be governed by USBC rules.
